Wireless range and speed rates are D-Link RELATIVE performance measurements based on the wireless range and speed rates of a standard Wireless G product from D-Link. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11g, 802.11a, and 802.11n specifications. The 5GHz band helps avoid interference by providing a clearer wireless band for HD file streaming. This allows you to check E-mail and browse the Internet using the 2.4GHz band or stream HD movies and other media on the 5GHz band. The dual band technology in the DWA-160 supports 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless signals. Backward compatible with 802.11g devices including game consoles and digital media playersĭual band N is the latest addition to the award-winning Xtreme N product family.

Delivers up to 14x faster speeds* and 6x farther range* than 802.11g With unmatched wireless performance, reception, and security, the D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band USB Adapter (DWA-160) is the best choice for easily adding or upgrading wireless connectivity to your PC. The D-Link Wireless Manager is also included with this product to keep track of your most frequently accessed networks so that you can join them quickly and easily. The DWA-160 features a Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) Push Button for easy connection to a wireless network. Configure this USB adapter without having to call a networking expert to help you. The D-Link Quick Adapter Setup Wizard guides you step-by-step through the installation process. The DWA-160 is also backward compatible to 802.11g, which means it can be used in existing 802.11g networks. It achieves this by operating in a clear wireless band to help avoid interference that may slow down and limit the range of current wireless technologies like 802.11g*. The 5GHz wireless band is the best technology available for wirelessly streaming HD videos across your network. This allows you to check e-mail and browse the Internet using the 2.4GHz band or stream HD movies and other media on the 5GHz band. The dual band N technology in the DWA-160 supports selectable 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless signals. This is achieved by using the DWA-160 together with an 11n dual band router (D-Link DIR-855 or DIR-825 recommended). The DWA-160 is designed for users looking to get a reliable wireless connection that can handle High-Definition (HD) video streams throughout the house. The D-Link® Xtreme N® Dual Band USB Adapter (DWA-160) is the latest addition to the award-winning Xtreme N product family. When used with a Dual Band Router, it operates on two bands so you can avoid interference and stream away I returned both devices, since I got no better performance for over $240 dollars. If you want to stream HD video throughout your house, then this is the adapter for you. I didn't bother to check the real rate on this router since it was connecting at such a slow rate to start with.

That's actually not quite as good as my old G router, which tests out at 12 Mbps real measured rate (not connect speed). I backed off and tried the 2.4 GHz band and established a connection, but only at 13% power and 13.5 Mpbs rate. It would sometimes connect, but no reliable transfer and it dropped constantly. In a room just across the hall and about 25-30 ft away from the router, I could only pick up 2-3% signal on the 5GHz band, so that was a non-starter. The bottom line though was it had no better range or throughput than my G router.Īlso note that this adapter does NOT support WEP AT ALL!! You won't be able to use it at many hotels and other public places that still use WEP because it is the "least common denominator! This router is essentially 2 routers in one and offers advanced features like independent scheuling of each and a "Guest" zone ability. I also liked the extreme flexibility of this dual band router. I bought this and the D-Link dual band Xtreme N router to replace an old Belkin G router expecting better range and performance.
